There’s nothing like falling into a series and knowing there are more books waiting. These are the ones I happily disappear into — clean, warm, and impossible to read just one of.
Timeless comfort reads
Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery. Eight books of Anne, from orphan to grown woman. Pure warmth.
The Mitford Series by Jan Karon. Start with At Home in Mitford — a small-town Episcopal priest and the people he loves. Cozy and faith-filled.
All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot. A country vet’s gentle, funny memoirs. The literary equivalent of a warm blanket.
Adventure and wonder
The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. Seven books that never stop rewarding a re-read, at any age.
The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien. The epic. Set aside a season and go all the way to Mordor and back.
The Wingfeather Saga by Andrew Peterson. Funny, thrilling, and quietly profound — great for the whole family.
For the mystery lovers
The Inspector Gamache Series by Louise Penny. Begin with Still Life. Murders in a Quebec village, but really about goodness and community. Wonderfully bingeable.
The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart. Clever kids, puzzles, and heart. A delight for middle-graders and up.
A last word
Pick a series, stock the tea, and settle in. Some of the best company you’ll keep is between pages.
